In the late 1800s, two paleontologists named Cope and Marsh were friends and colleagues, until ambition and an endless search of dinosaur fossils turned them into sworn enemies. Their rivalry, called the Bone Wars, gave us incredible dinosaur discoveries, but it also created a competitive culture that made a mess of paleontology and erased a lot of people's contributions along the way. In this talk, we'll dig into how this famous feud happened, what it teaches us about science and ambition, and whose stories didn't make it into the history books.
This is a hybrid program, so you can either join us to watch live at either the Main Library or Endicott Branch Library, or you can stream the talk at home! All registered attendees will receive an email containing the Zoom link the day of the program.

About the Presenter:
Dr. Eugenia Gold is a vertebrate paleontologist who studies dinosaur brains and the evolution of flight. She has published scientific papers, presented at numerous conferences, and written and translated She Found Fossils, a children's book about women paleontologists. Dr. Gold has a passion for scientific communication and inclusive access to science.
