As part of Dedham Reads Together 2026: Footsteps of Freedom, REMEMBER THE LADIES! Meet a first lady and learn about life in 1776.
Patriot and heroine Abigail Adams, through her marriage to revolutionary John Adams, was both our first Second Lady and second First Lady. Performer and historian Audrey Stuck-Girard will join us to bring Mrs. Adams. She will tell us all about women's daily lives and political involvement in the American Revolution, all in full colonial dress.
For adults. Registration required. Any questions, please reach out to Michaela at mcalderwood@minlib.net.
About the Performer:
Audrey Stuck-Girard started the company Cuffed & Coiffed in the summer of 2020 as a small showcase of her skills pertaining to the intersection of history, costume, and public engagement. Her educational background in theatre and stagecraft, coupled with her life-long fascination with history, led her to begin her career as a costumed interpreter at the newly re-opened Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum in 2012. Before long, she was researching and hand-sewing her own 1770s wardrobe to wear on tours and in interactive performances, as well as to reenactments and living history events outside of work. Within a few years, she co-founded the museum’s wardrobe department, where she honed my talents in historical garment research, patterning, sewing, alterations, hairdressing, and wig dressing.
